/COMPARE — FINDTRIBE AND THE ALTERNATIVES

Every tool has a job.
Here's where we fit.

FindTribe is a free festival and live-event app that combines downloaded venue maps, private friend locations, meeting points, and messaging that falls back to Bluetooth relays and optional LoRa pods when the network fails. Totem Compass is a dedicated hardware device for finding friends; bitchat and Bridgefy are Bluetooth chat apps without maps; Meshtastic is a hobbyist LoRa radio network; Life360 and Find My share location but rely on data (Find My adds satellite on recent iPhones when there is no coverage). Pick FindTribe when you want maps, friends and offline messaging for an event in one app.

FindTribe vs Totem Compass

A device, or the phone you already carry.

Totem makes a dedicated compass device that points to friends over its own mesh network, with no cell signal required, and has partnered with festivals. It is a strong choice for groups that want a separate, screen-free device; its app adds offline maps at partner events.

FindTribe runs on the phones your group already has. It adds downloaded venue maps, meeting points, private messages and SOS to friends. A LoRa pod is optional and only needed for extra range.

FindTribe vs bitchat and Bridgefy

Chat, or chat plus a map of your people.

bitchat and Bridgefy pass messages between nearby phones over Bluetooth. bitchat needs no account; Bridgefy needs internet once to activate. Both are good for talking to whoever is nearby.

FindTribe is built for a known group at an event: friends set up encryption while online, then messages, locations and SOS travel sealed over the mesh. The venue map, friend locations and meeting points are in the same app. See offline messaging apps compared.

FindTribe vs Meshtastic

Radio hobby, or radio inside an app.

Meshtastic is a widely used open-source LoRa community network. It is ideal if you like configuring radios and joining public mesh channels.

FindTribe uses MeshCore pods as a quiet carrier for sealed FindTribe traffic. One pod pairs as soon as it is charged; your friends do not need to learn radio settings. See Bluetooth mesh vs LoRa.

FindTribe vs Life360 and Find My

Keep the family map. Add an offline plan.

Life360 and Find My are excellent everyday location tools when phones have data. In a crowd where the network is overloaded, apps that refresh over the internet wait for data to return.

FindTribe keeps the map and meeting points on the phone and can carry locations over Bluetooth or LoRa. It also works as an everyday family map. Full comparison: FindTribe vs Life360.
